πŸ—£οΈ THE PULSE

🧠 this week’s pulse features nuggets from national publications centered around mental health topics. πŸ’“

Siblings and Therapy

As someone who’s had my fair share of ups down with my older sibling, I found this NPR article worth the read.

If you think about it, our relationship with our siblings date longer than that of our closest friends and our partner.

As stated in the piece β€” as adults, strong sibling relationships can affect our emotional well-being and mitigate loneliness in midlife β€” and help us navigate the aging and death of parents, and eventually, ourselves.

Sibling therapy has been understudied and the article brings to light that it should be getting a bit more attention. πŸ‘¨β€πŸ‘©β€πŸ‘§β€πŸ‘¦

Gardening, Mental Well-Being and Cultivating Friends

Gardening may be a one stop bed to improving you whole-body health.

Research suggests that gardening can lead to mental well-being through the connection with nature and it’s aesthetic beauty, and can be a way to connect with other humans. πŸ§‘β€πŸŒΎ

A study showed that gardening for at least 2.5hrs/wk was associated with better self-reported mental and well-being and life satisfaction.

It’s still not too late to cultivate a green thumb this szn!

πŸ₯‘ FOOD BITE

The Store: 12 South

Unlike a conventional food bank, The Store gives visitors choice-based grocery shopping. Individuals and families that are experiencing an unexpected food shortage or a temporary crisis are eligible.

And those that are at 200% of the poverty line and below are eligible for the bi-weekly shopping program. This program is currently full, but The Store is actively seeking additional funding. πŸ₯•
